Kota Kinabalu (Dec 17) - Newly appointed Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup has expressed his commitment to strengthening the nation’s environmental sustainability agenda in line with the Malaysia MADANI vision.
Describing his appointment as a major trust and responsibility, Arthur said the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability plays a critical role in balancing national development needs with environmental conservation.
He noted that in the face of climate change, biodiversity loss and resource security challenges, natural resource management must be reinforced through science-based policies, transparent governance and close collaboration between the Federal Government, state governments, local communities and industry players.
“My priority is to reinforce the environmental sustainability agenda in line with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI. This includes efforts in forest and biodiversity conservation, effective water resource management, protection of environmentally sensitive areas, and strengthening the nation’s resilience against the impacts of climate change,” he said in a media statement today.
At the same time, Arthur said the ministry would continue to promote green economic development and sustainability-based job opportunities to enhance the wellbeing of the people.
He also recorded his appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the appointment and reiterated his readiness to work with all stakeholders.
“I am committed to working closely with the entire ministry workforce, implementing agencies, non-governmental organisations, academia and the private sector to ensure that every policy and initiative is effectively executed and delivers tangible benefits to both the people and the environment,” he added.
