Kinabatangan (Jan 24) - Mohd Ismail Ayob of Barisan Nasional has won the Lamag state seat in the by-election, recording a decisive majority of 5,681 votes, according to official results released by the Election Commission.
Popularly known as MIHA, Mohd Ismail defeated Parti Warisan’s candidate, Mazliwati Abdul Malek, who garnered 1,588 votes. The Lamag by-election was a straight fight between the two candidates, reflecting a clear electoral outcome.
The by-election was held following the passing of the incumbent assemblyman, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, aged 66, on Dec 5 last year, which left the Lamag seat vacant.
For Sabahans, particularly residents of Lamag and the wider Kinabatangan area, the result determines immediate representation at the state level and shapes how local development, welfare concerns and constituency issues will be raised in the Sabah Legislative Assembly. The outcome also signals voter sentiment in the area, which may influence future political strategies and policy focus affecting communities in Sabah’s east coast.
