Kota Kinabalu (May 13) - Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has unveiled a major leadership restructuring involving several senior Sabah political figures, signalling a renewed effort to strengthen the coalition’s internal organisation ahead of future political challenges.
Under the reshuffle, Sabah Finance Minister Masidi Manjun was appointed as GRS deputy chairman, placing him among the coalition’s top leadership ranks alongside chairman and Chief Minister Hajiji Noor.
Meanwhile, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Armizan Mohd Ali was named as the coalition’s new secretary-general.
The appointments were announced during a GRS leadership meeting as part of broader efforts to reinforce the coalition’s organisational structure and prepare for future electoral contests.
Hajiji described the restructuring as an important step toward consolidating GRS’ political machinery and strengthening cooperation among component parties within the coalition.
Masidi’s appointment is viewed by political observers as a significant development due to his long-standing influence within Sabah politics and his prominent role in the state administration, particularly in matters involving finance and economic management.
Armizan’s appointment as secretary-general is also seen as strategically important given his federal cabinet position and growing role within Sabah’s political landscape.
The reshuffle additionally involved several other leadership appointments aimed at reinforcing the coalition’s operational structure across different levels of the organisation.
Political analysts believe the move reflects GRS’ intention to strengthen internal cohesion while preparing for increasingly competitive political contests in Sabah ahead of the next state and parliamentary elections.
