PAPAR – Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has reaffirmed its commitment to introduce a two-term limit for the Chief Minister's position if the coalition secures victory in the upcoming state election.

Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, GRS Deputy Secretary-General and Papar MP, stated that the proposal received in-principle approval from the State Cabinet in December 2023 but could not proceed due to the lack of a two-thirds majority in the Sabah Legislative Assembly.

Constitutional Amendment Requires Strong Mandate

Armizan explained:

  • The amendment to the Sabah Constitution requires a two-thirds majority
  • GRS aims to table the bill after securing a stronger mandate in PRN17
  • The proposal includes a provision allowing a former CM to return after a one-term break

"We decided to pursue this once we receive a fresh mandate from the people," he said during a press conference at the premiere of Impak Maksima 2 in Benoni.

GRS Manifesto: Achievements and Future Plans

The coalition is finalizing its election manifesto, which will focus on:

1. Four Pillars of Struggle:

  • Sabah First
  • Sabah Forward
  • Sabah Prosper
  • Sabah United

2. Track Record Under SMJ 1.0:

  • "Walk the Talk" – Completed promises
  • "Work in Progress" – Ongoing initiatives

Armizan emphasized that the two-term limit falls under the Sabah United pillar, reinforcing good governance and political stability.
