Kota Kinabalu (Feb 4) -The Sabah government has reiterated that all residential projects in the state must be planned and carried out in full compliance with existing regulations, with strong emphasis on protecting community interests and overall wellbeing. This approach is seen as vital to ensuring development remains sustainable, orderly and beneficial to both people and the environment.

The message was underscored during the official launch of the Karambunai Forest City residential project in Karambunai, officiated by Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Maijol Mahap. The project was highlighted as an example of development that aligns regulatory compliance with community welfare, reflecting the state’s broader policy of balancing economic progress with environmental responsibility.

Situated on a 20-acre site, the Karambunai Forest City development will comprise 1,036 housing units. Its design places strong emphasis on coexisting with nature by preserving greenery and respecting the area’s natural terrain, while avoiding disruption to surrounding flora. This approach demonstrates that large-scale housing developments can proceed without undermining environmental integrity or altering the character of the area.

The project carries an estimated investment value of between RM700 million and RM800 million, with completion anticipated in slightly over two years, subject to construction timelines and regulatory approvals. Beyond housing supply, the development is expected to contribute to Sabah’s socioeconomic growth, particularly through employment opportunities generated during construction and once the project becomes operational.

The development is being undertaken through collaboration between Marmaz Group Holdings and China State Engineering, with both parties combining expertise and experience to ensure efficient execution and timely delivery.

For Sabahans, the Karambunai Forest City project represents not only additional housing options but also job creation, economic activity and a model for future developments that place equal importance on regulation, environmental care and community wellbeing.
