Kuala Lumpur (Jan 23) - The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has lifted the temporary restriction on access to the Grok application on the X platform with effect from today.

In a statement, MCMC said the decision followed confirmation that additional preventive and security measures had been implemented by the platform. The move came after a meeting held on Jan 21, 2026, involving the Ministry of Communications, MCMC and representatives from platform X to seek clarification and firm commitments regarding safety controls and compliance with Malaysian laws in relation to the Grok application.

According to the commission, X has verified that the required safeguards are now in place for Grok. After assessing the explanations and initial confirmations provided, MCMC decided to withdraw the temporary access restriction, subject to ongoing monitoring by the authorities.

MCMC reiterated that user safety remains a top priority and stressed that any future non-compliance or breaches of Malaysian law would be dealt with firmly in accordance with existing legal provisions.

For Sabahans, the lifting of the restriction means users across the state can once again access the Grok application on X without disruption. At the same time, the continued monitoring ensures that Sabah-based users, including women and younger users, remain protected under the same nationwide standards for online safety and legal compliance.
