Kota Kinabalu (Jan 2) - The Sabah Creative Economy and Innovation Centre (Scenic) has named Mohd Lan Muslim as its new chief executive officer (CEO), marking a period of consolidation as the agency strengthens its role in supporting Sabah’s expanding creative economy.
Mohd Lan said his immediate priority is to reposition Scenic as a hands-on facilitator for creative and innovation-driven programmes, in line with the responsibilities set by the Sabah Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mestis).
Bringing over two decades of experience from both the financial and public sectors, including his previous position as director of the Sabah Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju), he noted that Sabah’s creative ecosystem is still in its formative stage but has strong potential for more organised and sustainable development.
He highlighted the inaugural Creative Economy Summit held in Sabah in April as a key milestone, as it successfully connected industry practitioners, government bodies and educational institutions, while showcasing the state’s local creative capabilities.
With Scenic’s 2020–2025 strategic plan now concluded, Mohd Lan said the organisation will place greater emphasis on effective on-the-ground implementation, while also developing a longer-term roadmap centred on employment creation, income generation and business growth. This approach, he added, will particularly benefit young Sabahans and creative talents in non-urban areas, expanding economic opportunities beyond major cities and ensuring wider participation in the state’s creative economy.
