KOTA KINABALU - Newly appointed Sabah UMNO Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk Jafry Ariffin has pledged to strengthen the party’s role and connection with the people, reaffirming UMNO’s commitment to championing Sabah’s interests.

Describing his appointment as a significant responsibility, he called on UMNO leaders and members throughout Sabah to remain united, reinforce teamwork and provide full support so that the party continues to be an effective, respected and relevant platform that stands for the people and supports the state government.

“In today’s political landscape, our priority is to strengthen governance and build Sabah together, rising above political differences for the sake of the people and the state’s future.

“With commitment and cooperation from all sides, InsyaAllah UMNO Sabah will continue moving forward as a strong, stable party trusted by the people,” he said in a statement today.

Jafry’s appointment was announced by UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki to fill the position previously held by the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who passed away last Friday.
Also announced were the appointments of UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Hasnol Ayub as Deputy Chairman and Kalabakan UMNO Chief Samasuddin Yusop as Secretary.

The new leadership line-up was approved by UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in accordance with Clause 12.5 of the party’s Constitution.

Jafry, who is also the Deputy Chief of UMNO Kinabatangan and the State Assemblyman for Sukau, expressed his appreciation to the UMNO President for the trust placed in him.

“This appointment is a major responsibility that we will carry together with a spirit of unity and determination to strengthen the party’s position in Sabah.

“I also extend my congratulations to Datuk Mohd Hasnol Ayub and Samasuddin Yusop on their respective appointments,” he said.
