Kuala Lumpur (Dec 17) - Perodua has officially expanded its SUV portfolio with the launch of the Perodua Traz, a new B-segment urban sport utility vehicle aimed at buyers seeking affordability, practicality and modern safety features. Positioned between the Ativa and larger family SUVs, the Traz is designed for daily commuting while offering enough versatility for longer journeys.
The Perodua Traz is offered in multiple variants, with prices starting from around RM76,100 and topping out at approximately RM82,000, making it one of the most competitively priced vehicles in its class. This pricing places the Traz within reach of first-time buyers and young families, while still offering features typically associated with higher-priced SUVs.
Powering the Traz is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing about 105 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque, paired with a dual-mode continuously variable transmission. The setup prioritises fuel efficiency and smooth driving, with claimed consumption of over 21 km per litre, making it suitable for both city use and longer inter-district travel.
In terms of size, the Traz measures just over 4.3 metres in length and offers a 210 mm ground clearance, giving it an advantage on uneven road surfaces. A boot capacity of roughly 470 litres adds to its practicality, especially for families or drivers who frequently travel with luggage or equipment.
Inside, the Traz features a modern cabin layout with a 9-inch infotainment screen supporting smartphone connectivity, a digital instrument display, rear air-conditioning vents and multiple USB charging ports. Higher-spec variants add comfort and convenience features such as automatic climate control, a panoramic camera system and a powered tailgate.
Safety is a key highlight of the Traz, with six airbags fitted as standard and a full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. These include collision warning and braking assistance, lane departure alerts, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The model has achieved a five-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating, reinforcing its appeal as a family vehicle.
For Sabahans, the Traz’s combination of fuel efficiency, higher ground clearance and manageable size is particularly relevant. Daily commuting in urban centres such as Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau is complemented by the vehicle’s ability to handle less even road conditions in rural areas. Its relatively efficient fuel consumption also helps reduce operating costs for drivers who regularly travel longer distances between districts.
The Traz is assembled locally with high local content, supporting Malaysia’s automotive supply chain. Perodua is targeting steady monthly sales for the model, reflecting confidence in strong demand within the compact SUV segment.
With competitive pricing, practical dimensions and a strong safety package, the Perodua Traz enters the market as a value-focused SUV option that caters well to Malaysian and Sabahan driving needs alike.
