Kota Kinabalu (Mar 24) - Hajiji Noor has assured that fuel supply in Sabah remains sufficient and stable despite recent concerns over shortages.
Speaking after a meeting with Armizan Mohd Ali, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, in Kota Kinabalu, Hajiji said the Federal Government has taken proactive steps to ensure petrol and diesel supplies continue to meet the state’s needs.
The discussion addressed public concerns over potential disruptions, with Hajiji stressing that maintaining a steady fuel supply is critical for Sabah’s daily operations. Key sectors such as logistics, fisheries, and agriculture rely heavily on diesel, making uninterrupted access essential.
Armizan said the government is closely monitoring the situation and strengthening coordination with relevant agencies to prevent supply disruptions. Special focus is being given to rural areas and key industries to ensure continued fuel access across the state.
Authorities also clarified that recent reports of shortages at certain petrol stations were due to isolated logistical delays rather than a widespread supply issue. These disruptions were temporary and have since been resolved, with ongoing monitoring to maintain smooth distribution.
The public has been advised against panic buying, as supplies of petrol, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) remain secure. At the same time, enforcement efforts are being intensified to curb fuel leakages and smuggling activities, particularly in border areas, with strict action promised against offenders.
For Sabahans, the assurance of a stable fuel supply is vital to maintaining everyday life and economic stability. Reliable access to petrol and diesel supports transportation, ensures goods can be distributed efficiently, and allows essential services to operate without disruption.
Industries such as fishing and agriculture, which are key to Sabah’s economy, depend heavily on consistent fuel availability. Any interruption could directly affect livelihoods, especially in rural communities.
The government’s commitment to monitoring supply and resolving logistical issues also helps ease public concerns, reducing the risk of panic buying and ensuring smoother operations at petrol stations.
Overall, the assurance provides confidence that both daily needs and economic activities in Sabah will continue without major disruption.
