Kota Kinabalu (Jan 5) - The Sabah Society will be hosting an upcoming public talk titled “Beyond the Jungle: A Journey in Conservation” on Thursday, January 22, 2026, offering the public a closer look at what conservation work looks like on the ground in Sabah.
The talk will begin at 8.00pm at The Sabah Society Secretariat, Damai Plaza, and is part of the organisation’s continuing efforts to promote awareness of Sabah’s natural heritage. Admission is free, although seats are limited.
The session will be delivered by Yulinda Wahyuni, a Senior Conservation Officer at 1StopBorneo Wildlife, who will share insights from her hands-on conservation work in Tawau. Her presentation will highlight notable flora and fauna discoveries recorded through field research, including technical documentation using DSLR camera traps.
Beyond research findings, Yulinda will also discuss how conservation-driven tourism initiatives are being used to promote Tawau as a destination for nature lovers, while ensuring that tourism supports, rather than harms, conservation efforts.
Adding a personal dimension to the talk, Yulinda will reflect on her own journey into conservation. Born and raised in Sabah, she initially had little connection to nature before developing a deep passion for wildlife and forests through direct field experience — a transformation she credits as life-changing.
Yulinda is actively involved in camera trap research, conservation tourism, environmental education and biodiversity documentation, making her work relevant to both conservation practitioners and the general public interested in Sabah’s environment.
Founded in 1960, The Sabah Society is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation dedicated to recording and preserving Sabah’s history, culture and natural heritage.
