Kuala Lumpur (Apr 30) - Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer has introduced its latest Monaco lineup to the Malaysian market, headlined by the newly redesigned Monaco Chronograph and the technologically advanced Monaco Evergraph unveiled during Watches and Wonders 2026.
The release marks one of the most significant updates to the iconic Monaco collection in decades, as TAG Heuer moves to modernise its most recognisable timepiece while preserving the design heritage that made the square-shaped chronograph a watch industry icon.
Originally launched in 1969, the Monaco became famous as one of the world’s first automatic chronographs and later gained cult status after being worn by actor Steve McQueen in the motorsport film Le Mans. The latest generation seeks to reconnect more closely with that original design while introducing substantial technical upgrades.
Leading the refresh is the new Monaco Chronograph, which now features a redesigned 39mm Grade 5 titanium case aimed at improving comfort, wearability and proportions. The watch retains its signature square silhouette and left-side crown layout but introduces sharper case lines, improved ergonomics and a more refined overall profile.
Powering the model is TAG Heuer’s new in-house Calibre TH20-11 movement, replacing previous outsourced movement configurations used in earlier Monaco models. The automatic chronograph movement offers an 80-hour power reserve and reflects the brand’s growing focus on vertical manufacturing and technical independence.
Available in multiple dial variations, including the classic blue configuration associated with the original Monaco, the latest Chronograph is being positioned as a return to the spirit of the historic 1969 reference while meeting modern expectations for luxury sports watches.
Alongside the redesigned Chronograph, TAG Heuer has also introduced the Monaco Evergraph, a high-performance chronograph that represents one of the brand’s most ambitious mechanical developments in recent years.
The Monaco Evergraph debuts the new Calibre TH80-00, featuring an innovative compliant chronograph mechanism that replaces traditional lever-and-spring systems with flexible engineered components. The new architecture is designed to improve consistency, durability and precision while reducing mechanical complexity.
The Evergraph operates at a high frequency of 5Hz, offers a 70-hour power reserve and carries COSC chronometer certification. It is housed in a lightweight 40mm titanium case and is available in both natural titanium and black DLC-coated titanium versions.
Industry observers have described the Evergraph as one of the most technically important chronograph releases of 2026, reflecting TAG Heuer’s renewed emphasis on innovation as the brand strengthens its position within the luxury sports watch segment.
In Malaysia, the arrival of the new Monaco collection is expected to attract strong interest among collectors, particularly as demand for heritage-inspired sports watches continues to grow. The luxury watch market has remained resilient despite broader economic pressures, supported by rising interest in mechanical craftsmanship, limited-production models and collectible timepieces.
Collectors have also increasingly gravitated toward watches with authentic motorsport connections, an area where TAG Heuer continues to maintain a strong identity through its long-standing involvement in racing and Formula One.
For consumers in Sabah and Sarawak, the launch further reflects the expanding reach of luxury watch culture across East Malaysia. Growing collector communities, online enthusiast groups and increased access to authorised retailers have contributed to stronger interest in premium Swiss watch brands outside major metropolitan centres.
With the redesigned Monaco Chronograph and the technically groundbreaking Evergraph, TAG Heuer is signalling a new chapter for one of its most famous collections. More than half a century after its debut, the Monaco continues to evolve while remaining one of the most distinctive watches in modern horology.
