Kuala Lumpur (May 27) - Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz has indicated that he is willing to stand in the Pandan parliamentary constituency during the next general election if selected by PKR, amid ongoing speculation over the seat’s future following Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli’s departure from the party.

The former minister, who currently serves as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s senior political adviser, said he remains prepared to contest in any constituency assigned to him by the party leadership.

Speaking to reporters after attending a Korban Perdana programme organised by Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Pandan, Tengku Zafrul stressed that decisions on candidate placements ultimately rest with PKR’s top leadership.

He said his priority remains serving communities and strengthening engagement with local grassroots members regardless of where he may eventually be fielded.

Speculation surrounding Pandan has intensified since Rafizi vacated the seat after leaving PKR earlier this month. The constituency has since drawn attention as one of the key battlegrounds that could shape the party’s future direction ahead of the 16th General Election.

Tengku Zafrul acknowledged that a contest against Rafizi would be a significant challenge, describing the former PKR deputy president as a major figure in Malaysian politics. Nevertheless, he said electoral considerations were secondary to the responsibility of carrying out work on the ground and addressing local concerns.

Earlier, Selangor Menteri Besar and PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that Tengku Zafrul had been appointed as the party’s monitoring officer for Pandan. The move comes after Anwar reportedly adopted the constituency following Rafizi’s exit from PKR.

Tengku Zafrul added that he has been working closely with local party members, youth leaders and community groups in the area as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen engagement with residents.

Political observers have been closely watching developments in Pandan, with the possibility of a future showdown between Tengku Zafrul and Rafizi expected to attract significant national attention should both figures eventually contest the seat.
