MEMBAKUT – Barisan Nasional (BN) plans to contest at least one state seat in each of Sabah's 25 parliamentary constituencies during the 17th state election, according to its deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The Umno deputy president said this strategy would ensure BN maintains representation across all parliamentary areas in Sabah, which comprises 73 state seats. However, he noted the proposal has yet to be finalized and will require further discussion with BN component parties, including Umno, MCA, MIC, and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS).
Avoiding Past Mistakes
Mohamad emphasized the need to prevent a repeat of the previous election, where BN lacked representation in certain parliamentary constituencies.
"We don't want to see supporters frustrated and disillusioned due to absence in key areas," he told reporters after launching the Kimanis Umno Division delegates meeting at Dewan Terbuka Membakut on Saturday.
Clarifying BN's Political Stance
Addressing rumors, Mohamad denied claims that BN had merged with DAP, stressing that the coalition only formed a government with Pakatan Harapan (PH) out of necessity following the hung Parliament in GE15.
"BN, especially Umno, has not merged with any party post-GE15. We entered an agreement with PH to ensure stable governance," he clarified.
Election Timeline
The 16th Sabah State Assembly will automatically dissolve on November 11, setting the stage for the 17th state election.
