Kota Kinabalu (Jan 10) - Kuamut assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah has been named the new chairman of the Sabah Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO), a position that carries ministerial status.
He takes over the role from Kemabong assemblyman Datuk Rubin Balang, who is currently serving as Sabah’s Minister of Rural Development.
Masiung will continue holding his existing post as chairman of Borneo Cement (S) Sdn Bhd, which he occupied prior to the recent state election.
Expressing appreciation in a social media posting, Masiung thanked Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for the confidence placed in him and pledged to discharge his duties responsibly. He said he would work to strengthen SEDCO’s performance while supporting Sabah’s broader development priorities.
In the latest state election, the 53-year-old secured a majority of 457 votes, enabling him to retain the Kuamut seat for a fifth consecutive term.
For Sabahans, the appointment places an experienced local representative at the helm of a key state-linked agency, with potential implications for economic initiatives, investment activity and development programmes that directly affect communities across the state.
