KOTA KINABALU — Sabah’s junior bowlers delivered a standout performance at the Johor Youth Open 2025, taking home two gold, two silver and one bronze medal over the weekend at Ampang Superbowl, Kluang.
Across the three-day tournament — featuring U-21, U-15 and U-12 categories — 10 Sabahan athletes broke into the top-eight masters’ round.
One of the highlights came from Muhammad Khairie Syazwan Mohd Shaharuddin, who not only finished second in the boys’ U-12 event but also made history by rolling a perfect 300 in game five, securing the top seed for the stepladder finals and earning RM500 in prize money.
Sabah’s gold medals were won by Natalie Chong Yi Wen (girls’ U-15) and Nur Jeehan Iezzaty Suffian (girls’ U-21), both living up to expectations.
Brendon Liew Tze Fui added a silver in the boys’ U-21, while Muhammad Zaki Abdul Rahman contributed a bronze in the boys’ U-15.
Other top-eight finishers included:

— Trsiten Lee Yan Wai (6th, boys’ U-15)
— Juaeril Adem Junaidi (8th, boys’ U-21)
— Nur Aleeya Syakirah Awang Ali (4th, girls’ U-21)
— Nurzawanah Zulkarnain (5th, girls’ U-21)
Sabah Tenpin Bowling Association deputy president Aisyah Abdullah, who led the 17-member squad, praised the team’s strong showing.
“This is an extraordinary achievement. The athletes showed tremendous fighting spirit, and it proves Sabah is no longer just a challenger but a rising superpower in Malaysian tenpin bowling,” she said, adding her thanks to the coaches and officials who supported the team.
