Sabah to Host Chinese New Year 2026 Open House at SICC

Kota Kinabalu (Jan 31) - The Sabah State Government will host the Majlis Rumah Terbuka Tahun Baharu Cina 2026 on February 17, 2026, bringing together communities to celebrate the Lunar New Year in a spirit of unity and cultural harmony.

The open house event, themed with the festive greeting “Gong Xi Fa Cai”, will be held from 10.00am to 2.30pm at Dewan Kinabatangan I–III, Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). Members of the public from all walks of life are invited to attend, reflecting Sabah’s long-standing tradition of inclusiveness and multicultural celebration.

According to the event poster, the celebration is organised under the banner of the Sabah State Government and aligns with the Malaysia Madani values, emphasising togetherness, mutual respect and shared prosperity among the diverse communities in the state.

The open house is expected to feature festive decorations inspired by traditional Chinese motifs, cultural elements symbolising good fortune and prosperity, as well as an atmosphere of goodwill as Sabahans usher in the Year of the Horse. Such state-level celebrations have become an important platform for strengthening social bonds and promoting inter-cultural understanding.

Sabahans attending the event can look forward to a warm festive reception and the opportunity to celebrate Chinese New Year alongside leaders, community representatives and fellow citizens, reinforcing Sabah’s reputation as a model of unity in diversity.

The organisers have extended an open invitation to the public, encouraging families and visitors to take part in the celebration and share in the joy of the Chinese New Year festivities.
